Why Tutor at the Learning Commons?

Tutors love our flexible schedules. They also enjoy helping other students succeed!


What Do Tutors Do?

Tutors help students learn course materials and develop their study skills.

What Hours Do Tutors Work?

New tutors generally work 6 to 10 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.


How Do Tutors Help Students Learn?

Tutors guide students through the processes of solving math equations or writing and revising their papers. Tutors also share strategies for taking notes and studying. 


Do Tutors Do Homework, Take Tests, or Edit Papers for Students?

No. Tutors are like coaches. They give students tips to help them strengthen their knowledge and skills. Tutors don't do the work for students.


What Qualifications Do I Need To Be A Tutor?

  • Grade of “A” in ENG 102 or MAT 150 or BIO 112/113 or BIO 137/BIO 139.
  • Two professional recommendations -- at least one must be from your professor.
  • Successful completion of at least one semester of college coursework at JCTC.


How Do I Apply?

We accept applications on a rolling basis for tutoring positions at each campus Learning Commons. If we have an opening that meets your qualifications, we will contact you to schedule an interview.
