What Is a Literature Review?

Think of a literature review as a guide to published information on a specific topic.

A literature review can be a simple as a set of summaries about relevant information or an in-depth evaluation about the most useful sources available about the topic.

Literature reviews usually examine scholarly journals, books, and other sources like dissertations. They include 1) a description or summary and 2) evaluation of the theory, issue, area of research, or topic.
