Gideon the Ninth

Jerica Lowe, Reference & Instruction Librarian
Currently Reading: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

"The Emperor needs necromancers. The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman. Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead nonsense. Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap off the page, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy." - Amazon

Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts

Marian Mays, Public Services Librarian

Currently Reading: Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts by Crystal Wilkinson

"As the keeper of her family’s stories and treasured dishes, Wilkinson shares her inheritance in Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts. She found their stories in her apron pockets, floating inside the steam of hot mustard greens and tucked into the sweet scent of clove and cinnamon in her kitchen. Part memoir, part cookbook, Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts weaves those stories together with recipes, family photos, and a lyrical imagination to present a culinary portrait of a family that has lived and worked the earth of the mountains for over a century." - Amazon

Ken Solomon, Director of Library Services

Currently Reading: Wool by Hugh Howey

I just started reading Wool by Hugh Howey (from our Libby collection).  After watching and enjoying the Silo TV series, I decided to read the books behind the show.  Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the survivors live in an underground silo filled with mystery, secrets and intrigue.

Lisa Eichholtz, Librarian

Currently Reading: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

"Tom Lake is about romantic love, marital love and maternal love, but also the love of animals, the love of stories, love of the land and trees and the tiny, red, cordiform object that is a cherry. . . . This generous writer hits the mark again with her ninth novel." — Washington Post

Sara Williams, Librarian
Currently Reading: Wannabe by Aisha Harris

"Aisha Harris has made a name for herself as someone you can turn to for a razor-sharp take on whatever show or movie everyone is talking about. Now, she turns her talents inward, mining the benchmarks of her nineties childhood and beyond to analyze the tropes that are shaping all of us, and our ability to shape them right back." - Amazon

Amy Wehrle, Librarian

Currently Reading: The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

"An instant New York Times bestseller, The Woman in Cabin 10 is a gripping psychological thriller set at sea from an essential mystery writer in the tradition of Agatha Christie." - Amazon

Nicole Dugan, Tutoring Coordinator
Currently Reading: Fantasy Island: Colonialism, Exploitation, and the Betrayal of Puerto Rico by Ed Morales

"Ambitious, intimidating, and beautiful...This book will be particularly important to readers with a connection to Puerto Rico and useful and thought-provoking to anyone else seeking to understand capitalism's past, present, and future."―Library Journal

Kelly Brothers, Library Specialist

Currently Reading: The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young

“Young once again blends mystery, magic, and romance in a story that spans time. . . . [A] seamlessly blended story that is enhanced by the well-crafted setting and nicely drawn characters. Readers who enjoyed Weyward by Emilia Hart will find much to love here.”—Library Journal

Maria Nazari, Librarian

Currently Reading: Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

"A double-threaded narrative proves seductive, drawing the reader into the naive but determined protagonist's efforts to transform an unjust universe. Leckie uses...an expansionist galaxy-spinning empire [and] a protagonist on a single-minded quest for justice to transcend space-opera conventions in innovative ways. This impressive debut succeeds in making Breq a protagonist readers will invest in, and establishes Leckie as a talent to watch."―Publishers Weekly

Maia Graudick, Administrative Assistant

Currently Reading: Tokyo Ueno Station by Yu Miri

"A surreal, devastating story of a homeless ghost who haunts one of Tokyo's busiest train stations. 2020 National Book Award Winner in translated literature. NYT Notable Book of the year. "  - Amazon

Violet Davis, Librarian

Currently Reading: Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

"An ardent romance and a harrowing exploration of war’s horrors and heartbreaks... with inventive worldbuilding, nuanced characterizations, and prose by turns dreamy and atmospherically tense." - Publishers Weekly

Jessica Newman, Dean of the Learning Commons
Currently Reading: Tattoos on the Heart by Gregory Boyle

"A spiritual masterpiece touching the innermost sanctum of the human soul. Boyle approaches each person as a child of God and fully deserving of love and compassion. His capacity to reach the heart of the most hardened, and to see the best in everyone, inspires. I laughed, wept, and underlined on virtually every page." --KERRY KENNEDY, FOUNDER OF THE RFK CENTER FOR JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Ana Gonzalez Mackenzie, Assistant Tutoring Coordinator
Currently Reading: A Long Petal Of The Sea by Isabel Allende

“Allende . . . has deftly woven fact and fiction, history and memory, to create one of the most richly imagined portrayals of the Spanish Civil War to date, and one of the strongest and most affecting works in her long career.” —The New York Times Book Review

Krista Dietrich-Osiecki, Librarian
Currently Reading: Cover Story by Susan Rigetti

“Cinematic…Rigetti’s propulsive narrative, which includes Instagram posts, text messages, and FBI case files, keeps the pages turning, and there’s a juicy twist.” — Publishers Weekly

Rafe Johnson, Librarian
