Take Charge of Your Reading--Be Strategic!

Reading isn’t as simple as knowing the meaning of words on a page or screen. When we read, our brains make connections, ask questions, and solve problems so we can understand the meaning and ideas behind the words.

Reading strategies are tools you can use or moves you can make to help with this complex process. Everyone uses strategies when they read, even if they don’t realize it. You can help yourself be a better reader when you know a variety of strategies and use them with a purpose. Using reading strategies well can help you read complicated texts like those you’ll work with in college and in your career.
