Getting started with research

Perhaps you've been given a research assignment. If that is the case, consider the following process.

  • Start by choosing a topic that interests you. If your teacher has assigned the topic, try to find an angle that interests you.
  • Read reference resources to provide background information on your topic.
  • Find books and other library materials on your topic.
  • Find journal or magazine articles for current research, statistics, or analysis.
  • Find web sites specifically aimed at your topic.
  • Cite your sources.
