Perhaps you've been given a research assignment. If that is the case, consider the following process.

Start by choosing a topic that interests you. If your teacher has assigned the topic, try to find an angle that interests you.
Read reference resources to provide background information on your topic.
Find books and other library materials on your topic.
Find journal or magazine articles for current research, statistics, or analysis.
Find web sites specifically aimed at your topic.
Cite your sources.
