Hi y'all! I am a sophomore here at JCTC completing an associate of arts degree with the intention to transfer to university to complete a bachelor's degree in psychology. I am a safe space for LGBTQ+ students, neurodivergent students, and any students living with a disability. Hi I'm Jill, and my goal is to help you love learning as much as I do! I have been teaching science and student success at the college level for about 20 years, both in-person and online. Before that, I was a community college student, just like you, and I went on to get my Bachelor’s in Zoology from the University of Florida and my Master’s in Marine Biology from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy photography and spending time outdoors with my family.

My name is Amy and I am a librarian at JCTC, so my main job is to help students do research, mostly through the many databases available via the Learning Commons. I love helping students find the information they need for papers, projects, etc. I have a bachelor's degree in English (so I've done my share of writing and research) and a Master's Degree in Information Sciences (where I learned how to help other people do research!). I am married and have two young children. We love exploring the city and have recently enjoyed hiking our way through Jefferson Memorial Forest and the Parklands! I also love pizza, the color purple, ducks, cardigans, Gilmore Girls, reading, and running.

Tutoring Staff

Jessie's Photo

Jessie Newman

Dean of the Learning Commons/Co-Director of Tutoring Services

Hi, I’m Jessie, and I’m the dean of the Learning Commons and co-director of tutoring services. That means that I oversee the library and tutoring, with a particular focus on helping to run all aspects of tutoring. Tutoring is very important to me: I’ve been in school a long time (I have a BS in cognitive science, an MA in language and literacy, an MFA in creative writing, and a PhD in rhetoric and composition), and the tutoring centers were where I felt most at home. I and all of the tutoring staff hope to provide that community here while also helping you reach your academic goals. I love to hear from students (and everyone else), and I’m always happy to talk!

More about me: I’m from Brooklyn but have lived in Louisville since 2015. When I’m not at work, I’m probably playing with my dog or watching way too much TV.

Nicole's Photo

Nicole Dugan

Co-Director of Tutoring Services

Hi, I’m Nicole, and my top priority is helping tutors and students navigate the tutoring process successfully. I started as a writing tutor in my sophomore year at Berea College, and that experience helped me realize I wanted to work in tutoring forever. I’ve taught and tutored writing for 10+ years now, and I began working at JCTC after earning my MA in English from UofL. I believe tutoring is one of the best ways for students to take control of their learning and build the skills and confidence they’ll need inside and outside of college.

I was a first-generation student, which is a big part of why I enjoy working in tutoring at Jefferson now; I hope to help all students from all backgrounds reach their goals just like the many people who have helped me reach my own. I’m happy to answer questions and talk about tutoring anytime!

More about me: I’ve lived in Louisville since 2017, but I’ve lived in lots of places throughout Southern Appalachia. When I’m not in tutoring, I like to hike, garden, read, craft, and take naps with my dog and cat. Some of my favorites include tomatoes, Joan Didion, purple, tacos, carnations, card games, and limoncello LaCroix seltzer.

Joey's Photo

Joey Piellucci

Assistant Tutoring Coordinator

Hi, I'm Joey and I'm the Assistant Tutoring Coordinator. I recently graduated from UofL with a M.M. in Classical Guitar Performance/String Pedagogy, and was also a graduate teaching assistant for two years. I'm so grateful that I get to continue helping students in my professional career here at the JCTC Learning Commons. The environment is so welcoming and all of the tutors/staff are wonderful people; they work hard to make sure students have the tools they need to reach their goals! You can find me at the tutoring welcome desk working with students or in the tutoring space working under Nicole and Jessie to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

Maia's Photo

Maia Graudick

Administrative Assistant

Hey! I'm Maia, and I'm the Administrative Assistant here at the Learning Commons. My job involves working behind the scenes to make sure every part of the Learning Commons has what it needs to continue running smoothly. I'm also a student here at Jefferson! After I get my associate's, I plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting. Outside of school and work you can find me exercising my creativity, expanding my knowledge about outer space, or simply hanging out with the people that matter to me. If you ever need anything, feel free to come find me after class or around the Learning Commons, I'll always be happy to help.
