Microsoft Office Tools

Other than the Internet, Microsoft Office is the computer tool you will use most often! Much of your semester coursework will require using a variety of tools through the Microsoft Office Suite. These tools are super powerful and there are lots of tips and tricks to getting what you want from them FAST!

  • YouTube has a great number of videos for almost any problem your having!
  • LearningExpress Library is a free tool from JCTC for all students!!
  • Library books are also available in print format or eBooks to help you succeed!
  • If you are interested there are computer courses you can take to help you learn these tools. 
  • Ask a Librarian if you need more help!!

Trouble Downloading Microsoft Office?

Microsoft Word will likely be the tool you most often use to draft, edit, and finalize papers assigned during the semester.

Word is an easy to use tool, but there are so many tricks and options to customize your work.

Tip: In a pinch, use Google Docs, an all online product similar to MS Office

This is also a great option for group work because more than one person can edit the document at a time and it saves automatically!!

Microsoft Excel

Excel is more than just a giant calculator!

You can create a spreadsheet for your grades, a list for groceries, or make a monthly budget!!

Microsoft Powerpoint

PowerPoint is a tool you will become familiar with as a student.

Many courses will require PowerPoint presentations, sometimes multiple presentations.

Learning the tricks and tips for this tool early will make your life easier over time!!
